The Stevie Ray Vaughan Memorial Scholarship Fund

Established in 1993, the Stevie Ray Vaughan Memorial Scholarship Fund, coordinated by the Communities Foundation of Texas, and Mrs. Martha Vaughan, was created in Stevie’s memory to assist music students pursue their educational dreams. This award is given to students in the 8th grade at the end of the school year. Scholarships are given to students who are recommended by their teachers who have demonstrated a strong interest and ability in music and have a desire to attend a college or university. Candidates for scholarships must have good grades, a good school attendance record and be financially needy. W.E. Griener Middle School & Exploratory Arts Academy, a Dallas Independent School District magnet school for music has been selected as the target school for the awards. An inner-city school, Greiner is located in the heart of Oakcliff where Stevie spent his childhood.

The scholarship will be awarded when the student graduates from high school and enrolls in a two or four year college or university. This scholarship, being a dropout prevention incentive, is used to encourage students to stay in high school and have a concern for their studies. In the meantime, the award is invested and when distribution time is near, it is anticipated that the scholarship will have benefited from investment growth. The award will be forwarded directly to the school the student has selected. 100% of contributions given go directly to the Scholarship Fund for all event organizers are volunteers.

Contributions may be sent to the address listed below.

Charter House / Charter Peachford Rehab Center

Affiliated with Charter Peachford Rehab Center. Charter Peachford is a privately funded facility, but they welcome charitable donations for a number of programs, including one for abandoned/abused children. Since Stevie was an alumni of Charter Peachford’s, it’s another option with the SRV charities.

North Texas Food Bank in Dallas, TX

I have it from good authority that Stevie supported the local food bank in Dallas. Just for info, I have included a link to their web site below, but I am sure Stevie would encourage you to support the one in your local area. To help in this, I have also included a link to America’s Second Harvest which is the largest network of over 200 local food banks.
